Episode 9: How To Keep Christ At The Center Of Christmas In Your Home

Let’s GO!

Welcome to the Soul Family Podcast! I’m your host Sinikka & and Happy Advent, y’all!!!

I am so excited to be with y’all today & cannot wait to jump into it with you, because Christmas is around the corner & I want you to know I am feeling all the things. Busy, peaceful, blissful, nostalgic, and ready for a longer rest time. Because we’re sick, y’all, we are sick. So this week, we’re lightening the mood and getting out the Christmas lights and relaxing, so let’s relax shall we!

Today, we’re talking about how to keep Christ at the center of Christmas in your home. You’ve got the elf’s out, stockings hung, tree up, and cider sipping going on, but where’s Jesus in these beautiful moments in your home?

In this episode, I give you the ideas that have worked for us to make Jesus present in this Advent season evident to you as you walk around your home (because we’re actually celebrating Advent right now, for all those listening to Jingle Bells – I am too! But I’m also listening to O Come O Come Emmanuel, because we’re anticipating celebrating His arrival on Dec 25!)

Every year, we have hung lights, set up the Christmas tree, and have the little holiday towels, bowls, and mugs, and it’s so so fun, but every year it’s very material, except for the precious manger scene. We absolutely love this manger scene and we’ve started to notice that we need more in our home and our hearts to activate our adoration and anticipation of Christ, so this year is going to look a little different.

  • 5 Ways To Include Christ Into Your Home Decor & Daily Rhythms:

    • Advent Wreath on Dining Room Table (light it every morning)

    • Daily Morning Devotional

    • Share Morning Reflection with Spouse

    • Scripture Sharing at Dinner Table (1 Verse per day from Christmas Story)

    • Advent Wreath Lighting Every Sunday

During Advent, your home is the space you get  to cultivate into a place that anticipate Christ. Your heart is the space you get to cultivate into a place that adores Christ.

Let’s devote our hearts and homes to Jesus during this Advent season, like Mary did. Let the Martha in you rest and the Mary in you reignite.

Reflection Questions:

  • What ways can you set your home to keep Christ at the center of this season? (Spiritual candle, advent calendar – Pinterest print out or make for a verse a day or good deed a day, Advent wreath, manger scene, Christian Christmas music)

  • What ways can you set your heart to keep Christ at the center of this season? (Devotional, prayer, 25 days where you do 1 verse per day reading at the dinner table with your husband the Christmas story & reflecting on it, Pinterest has ideas but only take 10min to look! And then hop into a devotional plan!)

  • What ways can you and your spouse together set your home and heart on Christ? (Setting up the manger scene, lighting one candle on the wreath every Sunday, listening to Christian Christmas music in the car)

By tonight, choose one way to center your house and heart on Christ, share with your spouse at the dinner table and invite them to join you or encourage them to choose a few more ways you can do this together.

Friend, you’ve got this. Get out there and hug the person you chose to be with forever, and let them know that today and everyday “I Choose You”, to build this home with, to keep Christ at the center of Christmas with, and to nurture our love for Him with. Hope you have an amazing beginning to your Advent season and I can’t wait to see how you two grow closer to each other and to Christ during it!
